If Europe is one thing, it’s storybook-worthy. And these fairytale villages are truly something you have to see to believe. From snow-covered pines and stout, puffing chimneys to half-timbered canal homes and gingerbread facades, these coordinates are the definition of entrancing. So grab a glass of cocoa, cozy up by the fire, and picture yourself in one of the daily “grinds” here. I know that’s what I’ll be doing!
1 | Hohenschwangau, Germany
2 | The Cotswolds, United Kingdom
3 | Innsbruck, Austria
The strudel isn’t the only magical part of this village. Innsbruck has that famous Golden Roof, ornate hand-painted buildings dating back to the early 1900’s and some pretty specatcular Alps.
4 | Bergen, Norway
5 | Bellagio, Italy
6 | Aix-en-Provence, France
Okay, someone please invent a time machine or teleportation device already! Must. Get back. Here. We arrived on a market day and meandered through white tents filled with hand-woven linens, colorful baskets, kitchen ceramics and antiques galore. Lunch consisted of risotto + wine in an outdoor table practically stacked against strangers, while an accordian performer paraded down the street. This town takes the cake for captivating originality.
7 | Lautterbraun, Switzerland
8 | Heidelberg, Germany
9 | Nemi, Italy
10 | Chur, Switzerland
11 | Hallstatt, Austria
For obvious reasons, Hallstatt is on this list. In my 25 humble years, I’ve never experienced anything so idyllic. A romantic fog drifted veil-like over the town as its inhabitants stirred awake. Cobblestone streets led me towards trickling fountains, pastel townhomes and a couple swan boats I should have taken for a joy ride in hindsight.
12 | Salzburg, Austria
13 | Strasbourg, France
14 | Bruges, Belgium
15 | Varenna, Italy
So there ya have it! The top 15 destinations I’d book a return ticket to in a heartbeat. Until then, I’ll be living in a permanent daydream/welcoming every opportunity to discuss these places in detail.
