The Anatomy of a Travel Shadow Box

I’ve recently started watching Parks & Rec… I know, I know! What have I been doing with my life until now? With every episode, I’m realizing that Leslie Knope and I are one and the same. And tbh, creating a travel shadow box is exactly the type of thing she’d do. But let’s be real, there’s no better way to reminisce on travel experiences than seeing the tangible pieces of your journey. (And also perhaps recreating recipes because…food).

So today I’m sharing my own shadow box with you! There are some times in one’s life to be proud of hoarding, and this is one of those times. From studying abroad in Ariccia, Italy circa 2015 to my most recent adventures in the land where all swans are owned by the queen, I’ve collected everything. Mostly handpainted ceramics, but also postcards, badges, snack wrappers… anything that wouldn’t be detrimental to the budget airline baggage policies on my return flights. So if you’re thinking about what to do with all this $%&# you’ve found while unpacking, this is one way to go!

So if scrapbooking seems too daunting or an album of prints seems to… predictable (don’t get me wrong, I have both), shadow boxes are a unique way to showcase your adventures. And also show the world you’re a sentimentalist. So go crazy kids. And please make sure you eat any snacks before popping its wrapper in your box.

Xx,
Haley
