Who says you can’t incorporate a passion for travel into your daily life? Some of my favorite things to when I have some free time is recreate signature dishes from my favorite countries, listen to the background music of different regions, and decorate cookies in honor of adventure. Today I’m sharing the latter with you – because it’s a pretty phenomenal recipe if you ask me!
I’m no pastry chef, so I snagged our recipe from Lark & Linen here!
Here’s what I used:
- Variety of cookie cutters (lots of options on Amazon!)
- Clear Vanilla (or Almond) Extract
- Hand Mixer
- Rolling pin
- White Icing
- Vanilla Fondant
- Food coloring
- Decorating brushes (you can use clean paint brushes as well)
Let’s cha cha!
1. Bake the cookies according to your recipe (omit baking powder if it calls for any + remember to refrigerate the dough before rolling out, forming shapes with the cookie cutters and putting in the oven)
2. While the cookies are in the oven, roll out your fondant until it’s about 1/8″ thick
3. Apply the coordinating # and shapes of cookie cutters to the fondant. Set these on parchment paper and let them dry for a couple hours or overnight
4. One the cookies are complete, let sit and cool down completely
5. For each cookie, apply a small bit of icing to the coordinating fondant shape. This will act as a paste or glue, so place the fondant on the cookie, icing side down.
6. Create lighter, watercolor shades of food coloring by mixing a small bit of the gel coloring with your vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly, and remember that a little goes a long way as you paint! My inspiration came from the inimitable Elisabeth & Butter, whose skills deserve the Oscar of the pastry chef awards.
