Current mood: laying on my bed with Toll House cookie dough reading Geraldine Deruter’s All Over the Place, which if you haven’t heard of it, I just changed your life. (I’m not a dramatic person, let’s all remember that). This book is a hilariously honest recount of the author’s own travel experiences, and the ways she’s grown because of it. Call it fluff, but I love to be inspired by stories, quotes and other people’s adventures. So today I’ve decided to share some of the travel quotes that got me to book that initial plane ticket. Remember how I said I’m not dramatic? Yeah I’m not an impulse buyer either…. my friends will tell you that’s all #FAKENEWS. Anyways, may these quotes simply ignite and inspire a fire within — or just something more casual like make you smile. Don’t wanna get too deep here.
“We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more.” ― Pico Iyer
“The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready.” ― Henry David Thoreau
“A nomad I will remain for life, in love with distant and uncharted places.” ― Isabelle Eberhardt
“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” ― Jawaharlal Nehru
“Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” ― Unknown
“Traveling tends to magnify all human emotions.” — Peter Hoeg
“Travel has a way of stretching the mind. The stretch comes not from travel’s immediate rewards, the inevitable myriad new sights, smells and sounds, but with experiencing firsthand how others do differently what we believed to be the right and only way.” ― Ralph Crawshaw
“The impulse to travel is one of the hopeful symptoms of life.” ― Agnes Repplier
“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” — Bill Bryson
“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.” – Unknown
